“For me, the best meals are the ones where everyone feels like they're part of something — sitting on a plastic stool, laughing with a stranger, and realizing that food is the fastest way to feel at home.” – Anthony Bourdain

Taco Tours in Mexico City

5 stops. 3 hours. All tacos and drinks included. Always small groups.

Built around the corners you'd walk right past, and the people who make them worth stopping for. Condesa, Roma, Narvarte, and Centro.

Why Provecho?

More Than Just Tacos

"Provecho" is what a stranger says to you over a meal in Mexico. Google might tell you it means "enjoy your meal," but in Mexico it's more than that. It's built around culture and connection. It means something closer to may this do you good. A quiet wish, from someone you've never met, that your food treats you well.

You'll hear it everywhere. Someone passing your table on their way out, catching your eye and wishing you well over a plate of tacos. Because here, a meal isn't something you rush through. It's worth slowing down for, worth sharing, even with a stranger.

That's the part no one tells you about Mexico City, and it's the part we build every tour around. We're not here to walk you past a few taco stands. We're here to bring you into the city we fell for, one moment, one stranger, one plate at a time.

You show up a visitor, and somewhere between the first taco and the last, a city you're just starting to know starts to feel like home. That's provecho. Enjoy this moment.

Fresh tacos al pastor on a street stand in Mexico City
Josh Laredo, founder of Provecho Taco Tours in Mexico City

Hi, I'm Josh — and I built Provecho for a reason.

This city is part of my family's history and now it's part of mine, but getting here took a while. I spent years designing luxury trips to Latin America and working in software sales, and as different as those worlds were, I kept chasing the same thing. That moment when something clicks for someone and you watch them light up, knowing you were part of it.

That's what pulled me to Mexico City. Not just the food (though, yeah, the tacos are insane), but the way this city moves. It's the smiles from strangers, the late-night conversations at a taco stand, the feeling that you belong even when you're far from home.

Provecho was my way of turning that into something I could share. It's not a business plan. It's a belief: that food and conversation still have the power to connect us. That a few hours over good tacos can do more for the soul than a year of meetings ever could."

Things People Ask Before They Book

What makes Provecho different?

We go to the spots you'd walk right past, the ones locals return to without thinking twice. Every stop has a reason behind it: the taco, the stand, and the piece of Mexico City history that comes with it.

Do you offer private taco tours for groups, corporate offsites, and special occasions?

Absolutely. We create private, fully customized experiences for corporate offsites, team retreats, incentive trips, large group events, birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and other special occasions across Mexico City.

How much does it cost?

Tours start at $79 USD per person. Private and custom tours are priced separately, reach out and we'll put something together.

What language are the tours in?

English or Spanish, whatever works for your group. Your guide flips between both naturally, so nothing gets lost in translation.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Groups are small on purpose. Weekends fill up fast, a few days ahead is the safe move.

What's included?

All tacos, drinks along the way (mezcal or beer), water, and tips on where to come back on your own. You show up hungry, everything else is handled.

How long is it?

About 2-3 hours, five stops, roughly a kilometer of walking. Nothing rushed.

Where do we meet?

You'll get the exact spot the day before, always central, easy by metro or rideshare.

Can I come solo?

Happens all the time. The format makes it easy, you'll feel part of the group right away.

What if I don't eat meat or drink alcohol?

If your diet's flexible, you'll be fine. Non-drinkers swap mezcal for agua fresca, no issue.

Condesa
Taco Extravaganza with knowledgeable local host. We loved our afternoon with Josh tasting tacos and learning about Condessa, Mexico City and of course tacos! We visited 5 places, each with different specialties. Josh encouraged us to try everything so we had some unique beverages as well. He was a charming host full of knowledge about the food scene in CDMX and the history. All the tacos were delicious and we left with a list of additional places to sample tacos outside the tour. He also showed us additional specialty shops in the neighborhood. Josh is a wealth of knowledge and you can tell he loves sharing it with others. We will do other tours with Provencho Tours for sure. It is also a good value for the price.

Condesa
Best tour of Mexico City so far! I booked a taco tour in Condesa, but it was much more than that. The taquerias were fabulous and unique, and Josh gave me great tips on how to order, taste, and enjoy authentic tacos in Mexico City. But beyond that, as we walked between taco shops, he shared great information on the history of the neighborhood, how it has changed over the years, and tips on culture and language. It was more like spending the afternoon with a new friend than simply joining a tour. Josh went out of his way to accommodate my gluten allergy, communicating with the servers at each stop to ensure I had safe and delicious options. I finished the tour with a full tummy and great memories — plus a long list of coffee shops, restaurants and tortillerias to return to over the rest of my stay in CDMX.

First food tour ever on our first trip to Mexico City. My teen son and I took the tour with Josh on our last full day, and it was a perfect bookend to a wonderful trip overall. Josh was personable and easy to engage with — both for my son and me. After having sampled many tacos already, this tour was a standout. Felt like hidden gems — no hype, no lines. Delicious and varied bites which Josh thoughtfully curated and then paced beautifully with his knowledge and love for the traditions, the people, and the food. Highly recommend! Not to be missed!

This tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Mexico City. Josh & Eduardo are really knowledgeable & friendly. They took us to a range of places for wonderful food. We also sampled artisan beers from Eduardo's brother's brewery & mezcal, which I now know tastes best when chilled. There were lots of soft drinks available too & all of this was included in the tour price. J & E were also great at providing helpful tips & information for the rest of my trip. I hesitated before booking as there are many food places recommended on social media, but in a lot of cases people report being disappointed. Don't follow social media hype, follow Josh & Eduardo instead. You won't regret it!

Narvarte
Josh's tour was by far my most favorite one! I went on four taco tours on my trip, each one unique in its own right, however none of them could compare flavor-wise to Josh's recommendations. These taco spots had mostly locals in them and they were truly mom and pop, hole-in-the-wall places. You probably won't be seeing TikToks about these places nor will you see influencers here, but I think that's why his tour is SO special. The tour focuses on what Mexico City does best in terms of specific taco meats, and each stop is well thought out and curated. These spots have stood the test of time and I feel so lucky to have come across this tour. Josh is a wonderful host who listens and truly cares about his guests. I cannot think of a better taco tour to come along.

Narvarte
Josh is very knowledgeable and knows the food culture in Narvarte. He took us to some great taquerias with some very delicious tacos. It is an up-and-coming neighbourhood with some great restaurants and great food. I would highly recommend taking this tour as it is the only one that highlights this underrated neighbourhood.

Condesa After Dark
I stayed in Condesa for over a week and tried many, many taco spots. On our second-to-last day we had the tour with Josh and he showed us delicious spots that had flown under our radar and that we would not have tried otherwise. Highly recommend the tour if you want to experience all there is to offer!

I had an amazing time on this Airbnb experience hosted by Josh. It was an incredible food tour — every stop offered something delicious, and each place felt carefully chosen. I especially loved how the itinerary built up gradually, creating a real sense of crescendo in both flavors and overall experience. On top of that, the group was fantastic, which made for really enjoyable conversations throughout the tour. I'd highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to explore great food in a fun and social setting!
